ACAHM Announces New Commissioners [9 Dec 2022]

EXCELSIOR, MN, December 9, 2022 – – The Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (ACAHM) is pleased to announce the election of two new Commissioners:

  • Cynthia Neipris, DACM, LAc as an At-Large member
  • Zhanxiang Wang, MD (China), PhD (China), LAc as an Academic/Educator member

Dr. Neipris holds a Master’s degree in Traditional Oriental Medicine from Yo San University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and a Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from Pacific College of Health and Science, where she currently teaches Auricular Acupuncture and serves as Vice-President of Career and Alumni Services and Director of New York Outreach. She has been licensed and practicing as a Nationally Board-Certified acupuncturist in California and New York since 2000. Dr. Neipris has published acupuncture related articles in several professional journals and has been cited as an expert on the subject of acupuncture by The New York Times among other periodicals. She lectures about Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine at colleges, hospitals and governmental and non-governmental organizations. Certified as an Acu-Detoxification Specialist through Lincoln Hospital, she has been an active member of the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association since 2000 and has worked with clients with substance use disorders in a variety of settings. Dr. Neipris has served on committees and teams for the NCCAOM (National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine) and ACAHM (Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine) and was a founding Board Member and a 15-year Advisory Board member of Acupuncturists Without Borders (2005-2020).

Dr. Wang earned his Bachelor of Medicine [international MD equivalent] from Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and his PhD from the China Academy of Chinese Medicine Sciences, followed by postdoctoral training at Umea University in Sweden and the Indiana University School of Medicine, and a clinical research certificate from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.  He has served National University of Health Sciences since 2014 a professor, clinician, and as the dean responsible for its acupuncture and Oriental medicine program from 2016-2019.  He has also served the Commission as a site visitor since 2018.  Dr. Wang has extensive research, authorship, and peer review/editorial experience. He has published more than sixty articles in both western and Chinese medicine journals including Oncogene, Cancer Research, Journal of Biological Chemistry, istry, Journal of Modern Chinese Herbal Medicine, and Chinese Journal of Integration of Western and Chinese Medicine. He was a peer reviewer for numerous journals including Diabetes, Current Cancer Drug Targets, and Chinese Journal of Integrative Medicine. He was also an Associate Scientific Advisory Board Member of Journal of Science Translational Medicine, a companion journal of Science, and was a member of the American Society of Hematology and Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society. He has also served as an Editorial Board Member for several journals and has authored five books. Currently, Dr. Wang serves as president of the Asian American Acupuncture Association, as well as Vice-General Secretary of the Specialty Committee of Hematology and as Standing Committee Member and Specialty Committee of Internal Medicine of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies. Dr. Wang also oversees his private practice, Great Wall Acupuncture, near Chicago, Illinois.
