ACAOM Announces New Executive Director
November 16, 2012
Welcome Mark S. McKenzie, LAc MsOM DiplOM
Dear Community Members and Friends of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine:
ACAOM posted its notice for a permanent Executive Director in April 2011. The national search resulted in 170 applicants. Over several months, ACAOM worked through a comprehensive and deliberative process of review of the applicants, culminating in its selection. It gives me great pleasure to announce that Mark McKenzie has accepted the position of Executive Director of the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM). He will start on January 7, 2013.
As an academic administrator, an educator, a health care professional, and a former ACAOM Commissioner, Mark brings direct experience in education and accreditation. Mark earned a baccalaureate degree in biology and computer science from Augustana College and a Masters in Oriental Medicine from Minnesota College of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine. For 10 years, he has served as the Dean at the College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (CAOM) at Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, Minnesota. Overlapping with his time as Dean, he was also a member of the Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (CCAOM), including serving a year as its Vice-President. In addition, he was active with the Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Association of Minnesota, including serving as its President for three years. Most recently he served as a Commissioner of ACAOM, which he resigned upon acceptance of the Executive Director position.
As ACAOM enters a period of continued growth and expansion, Mark’s first-hand experience and understanding of AOM education and accreditation will serve ACAOM, the schools, and the profession well. Mark’s leadership will further strengthen the work of the
Commission in providing the highest quality of accreditation services to institutions and programs of acupuncture and Oriental medicine.
