ACAOM announces two new Commissioners [Sep. 21, 2018]
The Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) is pleased to announce the election of two new members to the Commission.
Alex Holland, M.Ac., L.Ac. will serve as an academic member of the Commission. John Yoo, MBA, will serve as an administrator member of the Commission.
Mr. Holland is an acupuncturist, educator and composer. He is currently a faculty member and President of the Arizona School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Tucson, Arizona. In addition, he is working with the University of Arizona Honors College on an epidemiological research study. He was one of the first graduates of the Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Seattle in 1985 and did his clinical training in Chongqing, China, in 1985, where he worked at the Chongqing Research Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He was the Academic Dean of the Northwest Institute from 1992 to 1996 and former Chair of its Board of Directors; and was previously a Commissioner for ACAOM from 2008 to 2014.
Mr. Holland has written numerous articles on Chinese medicine, translated two Chinese texts on point location, and is the author of Voices of Qi —An Introductory Guide to Traditional Chinese Medicine. He has been the TCM preceptor for Andrew Weil’s Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine since 2000 and is currently on the Professional Advisory Board for the University of Arizona College of Nursing Community Cancer Connections. Alex has appeared numerous times on both radio and television promoting the benefits of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Mr. Yoo received his MBA from Columbia Business School and a BA in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia and is currently the Chief Operating Officer of the Virginia University of Integrative Medicine (VUIM). As COO, he is responsible for setting financial policy and for overseeing the operational and financial affairs of the University including both the academic institution and the academic teaching clinic. In addition, key operational and administrative areas such as strategic initiatives, finance, human resources, management and budget, organizational excellence, regulatory compliance, information technology services, and Financial Aid report to him.
Previously, Mr. Yoo led Business Development and Product Management for Arca Solutions Inc., an American software development consultancy headquartered in Northern Virginia. Prior to Arca Solutions, he served in various management and product testing capacities with the K-through-9 focused subsidiary of Kaplan Inc., responsible for creating innovative software enabling an integrated online/offline tutoring model that featured computer adaptive online instruction, real time reporting, and automated teacher lesson plans.
